This Free Friday belongs to Ages. He’s a California beat maker, who’s album is a mix of drone type ambient textures and awesome beats. It might sound a bit disjointed, but Ages has carefully crafted the two genres together and switches between them through effortlessly. For example, the first track is strictly drone, the second he starts to add percussion and the third he drops it for some great sweeping synths and a head banging beat. As much as the ambient stuff is nice, I’m definitely in favour of his more traditional hip hop flavoured tracks, a coney island (of the mind), being my favourite on the record. I’m hoping for some more stuff in this direction, but maybe that’s just me.
