A stellar review from William Grant had me rapidly searching the internet for somewhere to listen patten’s new album, GLAQJO XAACSSO. The album turned out to be exactly what was I looking for. The sound of the album relies both heavily on texture as well as melody: the looping lines pull in you into the track, and the textures, coming from the glitchy lo-fi sound of artists such as Clams Casino, keeps you trapped in patten’s creations. There are no distinctions between the instruments, as vocals, synthesisers and guitars blend into one, just as the whole record, despite it’s dramatic shifts in tone, manages to stay as a complete whole. This is one of those proper electronic records, which takes you to a completely new world, rather than just making you dance. Techno for lonely people.
