I’ve seen blogs come and go and it’s weird to finally be the one saying goodbye. It’s always sad, but I think it’s really hard to convey properly how strange it is to be stopping this endeavour. It’s been a long journey, but I don’t regret any of it.
Some of the things I am most proud of or had the most fun doing: The Gold Panda Interview. Being featured on Hype Machine Radio. Passion Pit T-Shirt competition (you guys sure like free stuff). The first time I eagerly wrote about FlyLo. A ridiculous mix of pop/indie/electronic music, that a reader charmingly collected and put into a zip. The first time I appreciated the power of sub bass via Joy Orbison. Realising I had missed James Blake spin some tunes for free in August 2010. Doing three pretty eclectic Running Mixes. Covering the Gilles Peterson awards, all at the last minute. Being the first to post on a couple of bands, my favourite being Dry The River as they emailed personally and were really sweet. Look how far they’ve come!
I’d like to thank:
Hanan / Music Induced Euphoria - I’m pretty sure she was one of my first blogger friends, our mutual love of indie rock brought us together (and her obsession with The Strokes).
Veronica / Creamteam - Apart from running an amazing blog with a unique voice, she gave me some wonderful advice over the last couple of months.
Niall / Nialler9 - Another individual who you can tell is in it for the music, over mad hits or whatever. I’ve met him twice and his blog champions both music new and old, in an unpretentious way.
Nathan / Real Horrowshow - We started off both nearly the same age, posting nearly identical music. He’s now pushing too cool music at his blog, which is still going strong.
Taylor / Music For Kids Who Can’t Read Good - Though I’ve never spoken to him, he was the one who inspired me to start blogging. Check his blog for smart people indie music.
Dev / Hype Machine – Dev put me on his radio show and it was a lot of fun. Plus he’s a great twitter follower/friend.
Will - I found Will after he posted about his love of Lightspeed Champion. He later invited me to join Strangers in Stereo and has helped me ever since. And he convinced me to move to self-hosting the blog. I owe him multiple beers.
Philip for proofing nearly every post I ever put up.
Adam for helping me hack some rubbish code together and design advice.
Cool twitter friends; tympanogram, PigsAndPlans, The Blue Walrus, iamSim, Bro Grant, ArmchairSpasms, Erik Burg, Lydia Simmons, The Recommender, Jakob, The Music Ninja
I also got to meet many PR people, managers and musicians. There are too many to list, but I’ll definitely be keeping in contact with many of them.
And you. The most cliché thing to say in all the world, but really I wouldn’t still be doing this if you weren’t reading, tweeting and checking in with me. I know you guys were often were quite quiet, but through the power of Google Analytics and twitter/hype machine/facebook numbers I know that you were still enjoying the music I was sharing, even if my choices seemed a bit chaotic at times.
To All My Friends.
