Jamie xx

My run-ins with the guy who basically makes the xx (otherwise they would be another generic indie duo), have not been met with as much as excitement as his previous band. However, in the last couple of months he’s been killing it. I can’t tell if he has got better, or I’ve just grown to love his sound. He’s been consistently bringing something new to the table and I want to catch you up on some of his best material.

His crossover hit has been his take on Adele’s Rolling in the Deep, which if you haven’t downloaded, you can grab here. His original track, Far Nearer, hasn’t even seen the day of light yet, but it’s chilled out vibes, made up of steel pans and a UK bass beat, have me itching for the 12 inch release. Best of all is his remix of Nosaj Thing. Jamie xx can pull off calm music well, but when he makes the music heavier, he shows his true skill. Fog (Jamies xx remix) has a tremendous bass line, one which can only be described as completely bad ass, as the 2-step rhythms and mallets pull the song along. There’s few such unabrasive electronic tracks which make you feel so powerful.

His latest stunt is his total reworking of Gil Scott-Heron’s album from last year. It combines everything that you’ve just heard in the last paragraph, laid back tracks and hard-hitting bass anthems. However, it’s interspersed with the vocals of the legendary Gil Scott-Heron to take everything to a whole new level. I challenge you not to download one example of his music and not to get hooked.
